What if my child loses a textbook?
What if I don’t pay the book rental fee?
Why are rental fees charged for textbooks in the State of Indiana?
The Textbook Rental Fee is established within the Indiana Code (IC 20-26-12). Like the vast majority of school districts in our state, Carmel Clay Schools chooses to use this funding mechanism instead of utilizing General Fund dollars. Carmel Clay Schools believes that our students are best served by using the General Fund to pay for hiring teachers and providing instructional support.
How are textbooks selected?
Carmel Clay Schools has a materials adoption process to ensure that we select high-quality instructional materials.
Materials to support the various subjects (literacy, math, science, etc.) are reviewed every six years. A committee comprised of parents, teachers, administrators, and students reviewed the materials. The committee makes recommendations to the Superintendent and the School Board. Once the School Board approves the materials, book rental fees are established.
Step Three - Before and After Care
A fee-based after school care program is available to elementary school students who elect to participate. This care is provided by the Carmel Clay Parks Department. Elementary school students may arrive for before school care at 7:15am for free. Please communicate directly with schools if your students plans to regularly arrive between 7:15am - 7:30am.
Step Four - Documentation

- An official birth certificate (not a hospital record) or Passport.
