5th to 6th Transition
Parents of future Carmel Middle School COUGARS,
It is difficult to imagine, but it is time to begin thinking about the transition of your 5th grade elementary student to middle school. We have a number of events scheduled to help in making this transition smooth and comfortable for all students, including Parent Scheduling Information Night, Student Activity Night, Open House events, and Performing Arts Try-ons.
Mrs. Deanna Pitman, Principal
January 30th, 2019 from 6:30 - 7:30pm
This is an evening event for parents only. During this presentation, administration & counseling will share information about the scheduling process and course offerings. A Middle School Program of Studies will be emailed during the 1st couple of weeks in January if you wish to preview this information in advance.
Smoky Row & Carmel Elementary: Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019 from 4:00 - 6:00pm
Cherry Tree & Orchard Park Elementary: Thursday, January 24th, 2019 from 4:00 - 6:00pm
This is an event for students of our feeder elementary schools only. Students take a tour of our school, play games, learn more about our performing arts classes, enjoy pizza, and a middle school basketball game.
April 24th, 2019 from 5:30 - 7:00pm
This is a great opportunity for the whole family to come in and tour our building, learn more about clubs and activities, and talk with key staff at Carmel Middle School. This is an informal event, come whenever fits in your schedule.
In addition, a team of Carmel Middle School 6th Graders will accompany building administration on a visit to each feeder elementary school during the 4th quarter to get to know our future Cougars and answer any student questions.
There are three opportunities to attend an instrument try-on:
Saturday, February 9th, 2019 from 9:00am - 12:00pm
Monday, February 11th, 2019 from 3:30 - 6:30pm
Wednesday, February 13th, 2019 from 3:30 - 6:30pm
Click here to sign up for one of the try-on dates.
Try-ons are not an audition, as all students are eligible to participate in performing arts (band, choir, orchestra). The try-ons allow our directors and students to find the most successful fit. Sign ups are required to attend a try-on.
Additionally, there will also be a Parent Information Night for Performing Arts held after students try on instruments and express interest in the programming.
