Carmel Clay Schools Announces New Assistant Principals at Carmel High School and Prairie Trace Elementary

Carmel Clay Schools is proud to announce the appointment of two dedicated educators to administrative leadership roles: Katie Kelly has been named Assistant Principal at Carmel High School, and Amanda Spurgeon has been named Assistant Principal at Prairie Trace Elementary.

Katie Kelly – Carmel High School
A lifelong Greyhound and product of Carmel Clay Schools, Katie Kelly returns to Carmel High School with a wealth of administrative and instructional experience. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Principal for Student Services at Southport Middle School, where she managed grade-level discipline, led the PBIS and MTSS teams, and facilitated the school committees.

Prior to her administrative role, Kelly spent 14 years at Carmel High School as an Instructional Coach and Social Studies teacher. Her leadership extended beyond the classroom as a School Improvement Committee Co-Chair and a long-time coach for the Girls Cross Country team, leading them to multiple state championships. Kelly holds a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Butler University and a Master of Arts in History from Miami University.

Amanda Spurgeon – Prairie Trace Elementary
Amanda Spurgeon transitions into her new leadership role after serving as the Instructional Coach at Prairie Trace Elementary, where she has been instrumental in aligning instructional practices and leading professional learning communities (PLCs). With a career deeply rooted in elementary education, Spurgeon previously served as a third-grade teacher and a K-5 Resource Teacher at Carmel Elementary.

Spurgeon is a specialist in literacy and student support, having led district-wide professional development on the Science of Reading and directed the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). She is recognized for her ability to foster collaborative school cultures and her expertise in supporting students with diverse academic and behavioral needs. Spurgeon earned her Master of Arts in Educational Administration and her Master of Arts in Reading and Literacy Education from Ball State University.
