Dear CCS Families,

We want to share our current reopening plan for the fall. We will open school on August 13, 2020 with the option of in-person or virtual learning. The information presented is based upon guidance received from state and national authorities, including the Office of Governor Eric Holcomb, the Centers for Disease Control, the Indiana State Department of Health, Hamilton County Health Department, and the Indiana Department of Education. 

Please keep in mind that directives and guidance from state and local authorities can change quickly in this environment. We know there is a lot of information swirling around about upticks in positive cases across the state and country. We are monitoring Carmel/Hamilton County cases and will continue to seek guidance from the medical community as we get closer to August 13. 

We are prepared to pivot our plans if conditions change. The environment may dictate moving from the regular in-person model, to a hybrid model, to a total virtual learning environment as the fall progresses. We will continue to share information on any adjustments needed as we move forward.

The COVID-19 Planning Group has been working on detailed procedures for our return to in-person school attendance while our Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Team has developed a re-imagined virtual school option that is very different from last spring’s version of virtual learning. At this point there are no waiver days, or additional flexibility on school attendance, so virtual learning will be adjusted to meet those requirements.

Carmel Clay Schools Reopening Plan 

We know that this is an extremely difficult decision for parents. This detailed plan is intended to help you make an informed decision regarding the educational setting for your student(s) this fall. If your student is in grades K-8 you will be committing to a 9-week period in the setting you choose. Because high school students earn credits, CHS students will be committing to the full fall semester. If you have any questions that are not addressed in the plan, please submit them using this form.

Please fill out a separate Reopening Parent Questionnaire for each student in your family by Monday, July 20, 2020.  It is critical that each family fill out the Reopening Parent Questionnaire so we can be staffed and ready to go on August 13. 

We will continue to take each step, one at a time, and keep moving forward.  Our staff has been preparing for multiple scenarios since last spring. We know we will not be perfect, but we will continue to learn, improve and grow as we go. I am confident our team of students, staff, parents, and community will do whatever it takes to provide our kids with a quality learning experience.
