Kate Masterson Presenting

To further the district’s dedication to digital safety, Carmel Clay Schools is proud to announce the creation of a new leadership position in our Technology & Data Solutions department overseeing Digital Security & Privacy.

Carmel Clay Schools is one of the first districts in the state to embrace the growing need for digital safety measures with a dedicated position to oversee the privacy policies and procedures of our students and staff.

As education technology needs and tools continue to grow and evolve, proactive safeguards must be implemented to properly vet vendors and programs that could potentially collect student data. To guide this work, CCS will be using the Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) seal as a framework.

The Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) developed the TLE program, in partnership with 28 districts across the country and several national educational leadership organizations. According to the CoSN website, “earning the TLE Seal is a mark of distinction, signaling that the recipient has taken strong, measurable steps to help protect the privacy of student data.”

Before being named Assistant Director of Digital Security & Privacy, Kate Masterson managed and oversaw technology training at CCS as the district Training & Development Specialist for the past eight years. As a Google for Education Certified Innovator and Trainer, safety, security, and privacy have always been a priority when selecting new programs or tools to use in the classroom.

“I look forward to continuing to build a culture of data privacy in my new role,” remarked Masterson. “I have always believed in the power of using technology to support classroom learning and am proud to oversee these initiatives to continue to keep our students safe.”
