Ceremony Details
Graduation Reminders – adopted by the Board of Education
- Each graduate must wear a cap and gown.
- Each graduate is expected to wear dress shoes and dress clothes to participate.
- A professional photographer will photograph graduates as they receive their diploma covers. No photographs may be taken near the stage area during the ceremony by parents or guests. TAKE ANY PICTURES OF YOUR GRADUATE IN THEIR CAP AND GOWN BEFORE THE CEREMONY, because students will be returning their gowns behind the stage immediately after they recess.
- Handicap seating will be located throughout the coliseum in designated areas.
- Seating of graduates will be done alphabetically. We hope this helps you know when you can expect your graduate to cross the stage.
- The Indiana State Fairgrounds charges a $10.00 parking fee. All monies collected will go to the Fairgrounds. Carmel High School will not receive any funding from this fee.
- For those family members who cannot attend, there will be a live feed of the ceremony. The link will be sent closer to the date of graduation.
- Students will receive diplomas in the mail approximately one week after graduation.
We believe that our commencement ceremony, above all other events, should reflect the class that we see and expect in so many of our other school events. For some in attendance, this ceremony will be the only impression of Carmel High School they will ever receive. There will be many opportunities for students to “celebrate” their graduation at times other than during the commencement ceremony.
We need your help in two ways:
- Please ask your graduate to exhibit the appropriate behavior that we expect. We have told our seniors that our ceremony should be a happy time, but it must be conducted with dignity and honor. Noisemakers, bubbles, beach balls, group chants, “the wave”, etc. are inappropriate behaviors for the commencement ceremony. Students who are involved in such activities will run the risk of being removed from the ceremony. Please let your graduate know that you expect nothing but their best behavior during this time.
- Commencement is a special time for the families and friends of all graduates. Please help us by setting the expectation for appropriate behavior with your son or daughter, both by your actions and your words. We all deserve to have a ceremony that gives honor to our students and to our school.
