Clay Bands serves over 350 students in grades six, seven, and eight. Sixth grade classes are scheduled in high woodwind, low woodwind with percussion, high brass and low brass. These classes meet daily for 45 minutes each. Seventh and eighth grade students meet for a 94 minute class every other day on an alternating block schedule, The students are scheduled into one of the following band classes: seventh grade Concert Band, seventh grade Symphonic Band, eighth grade Symphonic Band and eighth grade Wind Ensemble. The two grade level symphonic bands combine for performance. Each of these bands is comprised of approximately 60-70 students.
 
The band program at Clay Middle School has earned consistent Gold ratings at the Indiana State School Music Association Middle School Organizational Contest with the Wind Ensemble receiving Gold ratings “With Distinction." Students in the Clay Band program also participate in Pep Band, Solo and Ensemble, and the Indiana Band Master’s Association All Region Honor Band and Junior All State Honor Band.
 
The Clay Middle School Wind Ensemble performed in the 2015 Music for All National Concert Band Festival. Students in the 8th grade participate yearly in the Music in the Parks Festival in Cincinnati, OH, earning consistent Superior Ratings and Grand Champion Awards.
