Clay choirs consists of approximately 300 students in grades six, seven, and eight. Choir is an elective, and rehearsals take place as a class scheduled into each student’s regular school day. Sixth grade choir is a treble choir for both boys and girls. Seventh grade students perform in an intermediate mixed choir for boys and girls.  Eighth Students perform as a Mixed Concert Choir. Each choir class is comprised of approximately 50-60 students. 7th and 8th grade classes meet on alternating days for 94 minutes, and 6th grade classes rehearse daily for 45 minutes.

Students in 7th and 8th grade choir also have the opportunity in 3rd and 4th quarter to audition for Advanced Choral Ensemble (ACE). ACE is an auditioned choir of 36 students that focuses on singing advanced repertoire and a cappella pieces.

The choir program at Clay Middle School has earned consistent Gold ratings at the Indiana State School Music Association Middle School Organizational Contest with the Advanced Choral Ensemble receiving Gold ratings “With Distinction." Students in the Clay choir program also participate in ISSMA Solo and Ensemble. Students in the 8th grade participate yearly in the Music in the Parks Festival in Cincinnati, OH, earning consistent Superior Ratings and First Place Awards.
