School Resource Officers
In partnership with the City of Carmel, Carmel Clay Schools currently has 21 school resource officers (SROs),
All of our school resource officers are full-time, law enforcement officers with sworn law enforcement authority who are trained in school-based policing and crisis response. All of our officers are certified by the National Association of School Resource Officers and utilize the triad concept school-based policing of law enforcement officer, counselor and educator.
Lt Adam Miller has been with the Carmel Police Department since 1995. Lt Miller spent over 25 years in the Operations Division before moving to the School Resource Unit in 2021. Lt Miller grew up in Indianapolis, attending Cathedral High School where he played soccer. Lt Miller attended Indiana University where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's Degree in Public Affairs. During his 26-year career he has served as a Field Training Officer, Field Evidence Technician, Honor Guard member, SWAT Team Sniper, and is currently the Commander for the department’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team and the School Resource Unit.

Sergeant Troy Smith has been with the Carmel Police Department since 1996. Sgt. Smith was in the Operations Division for 21 years and spent approximately 14 years as a K9 handler or supervisor of the K9 Unit before spending nearly 3 years in the Special Investigations Division. He then returned to the Operations Division for 2 years prior to his assignment to the Support Division. Sgt. Smith has now been with the School Resource unit since May of 2022 and` currently supervises the K9 Unit as well as serving as the trainer for the K9 Unit. Sgt. Smith grew up in Madison County, where he graduated high school, attended Indiana State University for two years, and transferred to Ball State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. During his career he has served as a K9 Officer, K9 Unit Trainer, K9 Unit Supervisor, Field Training Officer, Field Evidence Technician, 19 years with the Honor Guard, SWAT Team Operator and Sniper, Drug Task Force, Metro Drug Task Force (Indianapolis), and is currently assigned to the School Resource Unit.

Sergeant John Govin has worked for the Carmel Police Department since 2010, and previously worked for the Marion Police Department where he was hired in 2005. Sgt. Govin grew up in Lynn Indiana and holds a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in Criminal Justice, and an Associate’s Degree from the Community College of the Air Force in Avionic Systems Technology. Sgt. Govin has previously served the Carmel Police Department as a Field Training Officer, and Drug Recognition Expert. He currently serves as a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Instructor, a member of the Honor Guard team, a member of the Accident Investigation team, and is the commander of the Event Response Group. He has served as a Sergeant in the Operations division since 2017. Sgt. Govin has served in the US Air Force / Indiana Air National Guard since 2006. Sgt. Govin is currently a 1st Lieutenant in the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron maintaining F-16 and A-10 aircraft. Sgt. Govin enjoys spending time with his wife of 20 years, their three children, woodworking, and watching baseball. Sgt. Govin is an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Master Patrol Officer Blake Lytle is a native of Indianapolis and is a graduate of Ben Davis High School. After high school, Officer Lytle attended IUPUI where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He has been a police officer since 2002 and joined the Carmel Police Department in 2006. Throughout his career, Officer Lytle has had the opportunity to serve as an accident investigator, a D.A.R.E instructor, a field training officer, a member of the Emergency Response Group, an explorer advisor, a member of the Peer Support Team, an honor guard member, and a member of the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police Critical Incident/Memorial Team. Officer Lytle is married with four children and is a Notre Dame fan.

Master Patrol Ashley Williams graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology. She was hired with the Carmel Police Dept. in 2008. She was assigned to the Operations division and has served as a patrol officer ever since. During Officer Williams’s time on the road she has been a Mentor, a Field Training Officer, and an Evidence Tech. Officer Williams enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with her two dogs.

Master Patrol Officer Broadnax is a native of Detroit, Michigan and attended High School in Bloomington, Indiana. He is a graduate of Indiana University, where he obtained his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Science in 1994, and his Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology in 1997. After Graduate School, he worked in the health and fitness industry as a Health Fitness Specialist, Exercise Physiologist, before finishing as a Wellness Director with the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. After many years in his chosen profession, he decided to pursue a lifelong dream, and accepted a position with the Indianapolis Public Schools Police Department (IPSPD) as a Police Officer in 2006. After one and one half years with the IPSPD, he accepted a position with the Carmel Police Department as a Patrolman in 2008. During his tenure with the Carmel Police Department, he has been fortunate to have experience and training as a Field Evidence Technician, as well as a Field Training Officer, before joining the School Resource Unit in 2015. He is married with three children, and is a diehard IU fan.

Master Patrol Officer Sarah Livingston has been with the Carmel Police Department since 2004. She is a graduate of Purdue University. Prior to being assigned to the SRO Unit, Officer Livingston was a detective in the Criminal Investigations Divisions, focusing on crimes against children. She served in Criminal Investigations for six years. Officer Livingston is also a member of our Police Officer Support Team.
She enjoys spending time with her family. She loves music, sports, and being outdoors.

Officer Matt Harris has been a police officer for eight years and began working for the Carmel Police Department in 2018. Officer Harris was a detective and a night shift supervisor at his previous department and has been a field training officer. Officer Harris was a musician and teacher prior to becoming a law enforcement officer. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Butler University and a Master’s degree from Arizona State University in Music Performance. Officer Harris is married with two children, a dog, a cat, eight chickens, and two parakeets.

Officer Luke Gossett has worked for the Carmel Police Department since 2013 and previously with the Tucson Police Department, where he was hired in 2006 as a patrol officer. Officer Gossett has spent time on the department developing the new hires as a Field Training Officer (FTO). He is an Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVO) instructor and a senior member of the Accident Investigation Unit. Officer Gossett’s most recent accomplishment came when he was selected as a new member of the SRO unit. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University where he majored in Criminology and had a minor in Psychology. Officer Zimmerman joined the Carmel Police Department in September of 2017. Since he was sworn in, he graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy with honors and he has become a mentor for the Carmel Police Explorer Program. Officer Zimmerman has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). While at IUPUI, Officer Zimmerman was the President of Phi Gamma Delta, the Vice President of Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (N.A.S.A. club), and the Activities Coordinator for The Communications Club. Officer Zimmerman is getting married on August 29th, 2020 and has a Goldendoodle named Leo. Officer Zimmerman has an older sister that lives in England, a 13-year-old sister named Hadley, a 12 year-old-sister named Maddy, and an 8-year-old brother named Caleb. Officer Zimmerman’s favorite hobbies are boating and hiking.

Officer Ashley Commodore has been with the Carmel Police Department since 2019. Officer Commodore is a member of CPD’s Chiefs Honor Guard, State Certified Car Seat Technician, Indiana Special Olympics Liaison, and an active member of the CPD Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).
Prior to Carmel PD, Officer Commodore worked for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) since 2013 where she served as a Field Training Officer (FTO), member of the Sheriff’s State Honor Guard Memorial Team, Bike Team, Background Investigator, Cadet Program Advisor and in the Community Resource Program. In 2017, Officer Commodore took a full time position with AES working as National Infrastructure Security and became a Reserve Deputy for MCSO. Officer Commodore was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where she led a squad of Deputies as the Sheriff’s Response Team (SRT), serving high-risk felony warrants in Marion County.
Officer Commodore is newly married to her best friend whom is also a Carmel Police Officer and they love anything outdoors. Officer Commodore does not currently have children but is looking forward to starting a family. Officer Commodore feels extremely blessed and is excitedly looking forward to building lifelong bonds with students and administration as an SRO.

Officer Dustin VanTreese (AKA Officer VT) has been with the Carmel Police Department since 2017. Prior to being employed by Carmel he was employed with the City of Lawrence Police department as a road officer for two years as well as the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for seven years where he worked as an instructor and ran the McGruff the Crime Dog program.
Since with the Carmel Police Department he has worked as a Field Training Officer (FTO), a Field Evidence Technician (FET) and is part of the CPD SWAT team.
He is married with two children and in his free time enjoys the outdoors, playing hockey and attempting to golf.

Master Patrol Officer Cristhian Rodriguez was hired on with the Carmel Police Department in February of 2011. He was assigned to the Operations division where he served as a patrol officer for 11.5 years. He attended the University of Indianapolis for a career in nursing prior to transitioning into a career in Law Enforcement.
While working for the Carmel Police Department he has served as a member of the Chief’s Honor Guard, Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), Drone Pilot, member of the Emergency Response Group (ERG), Crisis Intervention officer and a Spanish interpreter.
Officer Rodriguez is a native Spanish speaking officer. He and his family immigrated to the United States from Aguascalientes, Mexico when he was 8 years old. He is one of seven siblings in his family. He also served six years as Combat Medic (Healthcare Specialist) in the United States Army National Guard from 2009-2015.
Officer Rodriguez is married, has a daughter and currently resides in Carmel. He enjoys vacations to the beach, outdoor activities, exercising and spending time with his wife, daughter and their dog, Dean.

Officer Chris Wolak is an IU Bloomington graduate has been a police officer since 2018. Prior to CPD, he has previously served as an officer for IUPD and Bloomington PD.
At CPD, Officer Wolak is an advisor for the CPD Cadet Program.
As an avid basketball fan, Chris volunteers to coach a basketball team and enjoys watching basketball from all grade levels.

Officer Jason Gilmore graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Marketing. He has worked for the Carmel Police Department since 2015 and has been with the School Resource Unit since 2022. Officer Gilmore has been a Field Evidence Technician and is currently a pilot for the Unmanned Aerial System Unit and a member of the Emergency Response Group. Officer Gilmore enjoys spending time with family and friends. He also enjoys watching and playing basketball, football, and baseball.

Officer Molly Gregory graduated from Ball State University with a Master’s Degree in Special Education. She is a graduate of Carmel High School and has been involved in the local girl’s lacrosse community in various roles since 2005. Officer Gregory was hired by the Carmel Police Department in 2019 and has served as a Field Evidence Technician and Field Training Officer before joining the School Resource Unit. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, motorcycle rides, the outdoors, and cooking.

Officer Garcia is a native of Chicago, Illinois, and attended high school in Hammond, Indiana. He is a graduate of Purdue University Northwest, where he played soccer and received a degree in sociology. He has been a police officer since 2016, and an officer with Carmel since 2019. Throughout his career, Officer Garcia has had the opportunity to serve on the Drone Team, be a member of the Honor Guard, and a field training officer. Officer Commodore began his police career with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in 2013, not long after getting out to the US Army. In 2018, Officer Commodore joined the Carmel Police Department and has been with us for 4 years and is a member of the Chiefs Honor Guard. Originally from Maryland, he moved here in 2011 and met his now wife, SRO Ashley Commodore. The two are expecting a baby girl in early December.
He enjoys road trips with his wife, exploring nature, and enjoying movies and video games if he must be inside.

Officer Juan Navarrete was hired on with the Carmel Police Department in 2012. He was assigned to the Operations division as a patrol officer. While on the road Officer Navarrete was a Field Training Officer and still serves as a Drone pilot, Spanish interpreter, and a member of the Emergency Response Group. Prior to joining the Carmel Police, Officer Navarrete was employed by Kmart as a Loss Prevention Manager. He also served in the United States Army Military Police from 2008-2014 with one tour in Iraq in 2009. Officer Navarrete is a father of two boys and one girl. He enjoys spending time with family and friends and loves playing corn hole.

Officer Hunter Rogowski (AKA Officer Rogo) graduated from Indiana University - Bloomington with a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education Social Studies. He taught Psychology, World History, and Geography, as well as coached Baseball at Martinsville High School. He was hired on with the Carmel Police Dept. in 2017. He was assigned to the Operations division and served as a patrol officer. During Officer Rogowski’s time on the road, he was a Field Training Officer and still serves as a negotiator for the police department’s Crisis Negotiations Team. Officer Rogowski enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his wife, son, and dog, Fiona.

Officer Chad Wiegman has been with the Carmel Police Department since 2006. Officer Wiegman is from Fort Wayne Indiana and attended Snider High School. Officer Wiegman attended Indiana University where he studied Criminal Justice. Prior to the Carmel Police Department he worked for the Indianapolis Police Department for two and a half years. During his almost 17 years with the Carmel Police Department he has been assigned to the Operations Division and has served as an Accident Investigator, Coordinator of the Carmel Police Explorer Program, Field Training Officer and for the last eight years the K9 unit with his soon to be retired K9 partner Lolo. Officer Wiegman is married and has a middle school aged daughter who attends Hamilton Heights High School.
