Special Education

Carmel Clay Schools is a destination district for services supporting students with disabilities. The district provides services for individuals ages 3 through 21, ensuring continuity of support from early childhood through transition to adulthood. Currently, 15% of the student population, representing more than 2,400 students, utilizes specialized services.

Students are determined eligible for special education through a multidisciplinary evaluation coordinated by a school psychologist. Working closely with families, teachers, and administrators, Carmel Clay Schools is committed to educating each student in the least restrictive environment. The majority attend their neighborhood schools and, to the maximum extent appropriate, learn alongside non-disabled peers unless their Individual Education Plan (IEP) requires a different setting.

Support is provided through a comprehensive continuum of programs designed to meet a wide range of student needs. Explore the information below to learn more about our programs, how to begin services, and how to contact our team for assistance.
