Carmel Student Awarded Congressional App Challenge

Carmel High School sophomore, Jasper Zhu, was named the winner of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge (CAC) for Indiana’s 5th Congressional District. Representative Victoria Spartz recognized Zhu for his development of the mobile app "I Pooped There," which allows users to find nearby, clean restrooms.

"I was honestly really surprised," said Zhu of the accomplishment. "I wasn't expecting to win at all so I really couldn't even process everything."

In the team's submission video, they acknowledge while the issue is comical, it is also relevant and helpful to many. As part of the award, the app will be featured on House.gov, as well as displayed at an office connected to the U.S. Capitol.

"I am going to major in computer or data science. I want to develop more apps in the future and I am hopeful this on my resume will be helpful." As for other future ventures, Jasper is a proud and avid rock climber who hopes to someday open a rock climbing gym.
