Every month the safety specialists at Carmel Clay Schools gather to discuss building-level and district concerns, share lessons and best practices, review recent safety incidents, and plan upcoming drills. District safety specialists are required by the Indiana Department of Education however, Carmel’s investment in the training and quantity of specialists districtwide goes well beyond the minimum requirement.

Our SROs, school administration, and department directors participate in professional development meetings to ensure continued safety for all Carmel Clay students and staff. 

Meetings also often include running through a manufactured real-world scenario to examine the details with affected parties to prepare for future incidents. These collaborative discussions bring together law enforcement and school leadership to better understand how to move forward in a given situation.
