After years of research and discussion surrounding school start times, we wanted to share the news that Carmel Clay School Board has approved changes to both the elementary and secondary school day. These changes to the school day will take effect at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. In addition to these school start and end times, we have provided a district-wide late start schedule that will occur approximately twice a month.
Elementary School Day
- All elementary schools will begin the school day at 7:50 a.m. and end the school day at 2:35 p.m. This is an increase of 15 minutes to the school day. This additional time will be used to increase the amount of daily recess from 15 minutes to 30 minutes.
Middle & High School Day
- Carmel High School and all middle schools will begin the school day at 8:45 a.m. and end the school day at 3:45 p.m.
Late Start Schedule
- All Carmel Clay Schools will have a 40 minute district-wide late start twice a month for the purpose of teacher professional development.

The district continues to speak with medical professionals and develop plans to determine how best to bring students and staff back safely on August 13th. The changes to the school day and the district-wide late start schedule outlined above may be suspended at any time due to the evolving nature of COVID-19.
