Mohawk Trails Elementary Receives Prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award
Carmel, IN – U.S Department of Education announced today that Mohawk Trails Elementary has been named a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School, designating them as one of the best schools in the country. Mohawk Trails Elementary is among only 362 schools across the U.S. to receive this incredible honor. Carmel Clay Schools has now celebrated this honor 12 times since 1982, most recently with College Wood Elementary in 2017.
The National Blue Ribbon Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap. The award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.
Mohawk Trails Elementary was nominated for the award by the Indiana State Department of Education and selected as one of the few schools across the nation to receive the impressive status of Exemplary High Performing School by the U.S Department of Education. To be eligible to be a high performing school, schools must score at the highest performance level on tests referenced by the national norms in the most recent year tested. This means that schools must rank in the top 15 percent of all schools on state assessments in both reading and mathematics. Each subgroup of students at the school must also be in the top 40 percent in the state on state assessments.
“We are thrilled to have receive this award and all that it represents,” said Mohawk Trails Principal Jennifer Greene. “We have an outstanding school family including staff and parents who work together to prepare the best learning experience for our students.”
Mohawk Trails Principal Jennifer Greene and Assistant Principal Sara Agee will attend the two-day awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. to celebrate their outstanding achievement.
“To be named a National Blue Ribbon School is one of the highest accomplishments a school can reach,” said Dr. Michael Beresford, Superintendent of Carmel Clay Schools. “I am extremely proud of the Mohawk Trails team. They are that small group of dedicated educators who change the world one student at a time. They deeply care about the whole child and they work hard to make their school a special place for students to learn and grow. This type of an honor doesn’t occur by accident. It takes the combined efforts of students, staff, parents, and the community to earn this distinction. Kudos to the Turtle family on a job well done!”
