CTE-TV is a daily broadcast program that is written, produced, and broadcast live each morning by fifth graders. Students apply for one of eight jobs that form the broadcast team for one month. These students meet daily to plan future episodes and prepare their broadcast. Our CTE-TV broadcast team kicks the day off for students and staff around the building.
How to get involved: Students apply, interview, and audition for CTE-TV during the spring of their 4th grade year. Teams are created after summer Broadcast Camp and published to teams before their 5th grade year begins.
Battle of the Books is an exciting round of competitions offered to all fourth and fifth grade students. The students form four-person teams from their grade level. Each team member must read a minimum of five books from the current Young Hoosier Book Award list and become an "expert" on those books they have read. In May, grade level teams will "battle" each other. Battles consist of 20 questions, one for each book. The final "battle" will be between the winning fourth grade and fifth grade teams and is broadcast live on CTE-TV for all 3rd-5th graders to view.
How to get involved: During Media Specials, Mrs. Lima will ask interested 4th and 5th graders to take Battle of the Books informational packet and begin forming their teams. All information for participating and competing will be in the packet.
Choralaires is the 4th and 5th grade choir at Cherry Tree. Singers meet every Thursday morning before school from 7:15 AM - 8:05 AM in the LGI to practice and prepare for performances throughout the year. Performances include Veterans Day, Holiday in the District, Winter Concert, CEF Showcase, IMEA Festival and the Spring Concert. This is an entire-year commitment which ends with performing on on the Palladium Stage for Music and Miracles and a field trip to sing outdoors to honor our Veterans.
Fifth grade students are invited to volunteer in the media center during their recess time for 2-week shifts as Media Helpers. These students help deliver carts and notices, prepare the library for classes and programs, and keep our media center in tip-top shape.
How to get involved: Fifth graders are asked to sign up to be a Media Helper at the beginning of the year, but may decide to join at any time.
Orff Ensemble is a group for 5th graders who play the Orff instruments which are small xylophones. We meet Tuesday after school in the music room from 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM. These players take instruments home to practice and come in during recess to master these challenging pieces.
Fourth and fifth graders interested in promoting healthy lifestyles at Cherry Tree are invited to join our Patriots Of Wellness (POW) club. We meet one Friday a month at 7:30 am. A few examples of what we do include organizing Walk to School Day, Fuel Up to Fire Up, and speaking at Wellness Wednesdays.
Meeting dates are emailed to all fourth and fifth graders at the beginning of the year, and students may join any time throughout the year.
Our Student Council is a very active part of student life at Cherry Tree. This proactive group of 4th and 5th graders meets monthly (or more) to plan school events and community service opportunities. Led by a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer, they designate spirit days and implement school-wide philanthropic activities such as SOctober, Canned Food Drive, Riley Walk-a-thon.
How to get involved: Each fall, all interested 4th and 5th grade students are invited to join Student Council. Elections are held early in the fall, and those leaders guide the council throughout the year. Any 4th or 5th grade student is able to join the Council at any time, though we're most successful when we have regular participants.
Attention 4th and 5th Graders! Join the yearbook staff and create memories for the school yearbook. Students will write headlines, captions and stories for various activity pages/staff, and help with page layouts. This commitment is during the months of December and January. Help us capture the special events at Cherry Tree!
