Welcome back CWE students!
Parents, please update your child's medical form on Powerschool with Allergy and Medical Considerations.
A child with a contagious illness or fever should not be sent to school. Any student with a fever should be kept home until the student has been fever free for 24 hours without medication (temperature below 100.4 0 F). Any student whose temperature is above 100.4 0 F will be sent home from school. All other student illness, including vomiting and diarrhea, will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Health-related school dismissals will be done at the discretion of the school nurse.
Students may return to school:
● strep infections – after antibiotics and temperature below 100.4 degrees for 24 hours
● pink eye – after prescribed medication for 24 hours and improved condition
● ringworm – only if the lesion is covered and verification of anti-fungal treatment is given
● scabies – the next day after treatment
● vomiting and/or diarrhea – will be handled on a case-by-case basis after consultation with the school nurse

Girls on the Run Info & Registration
Are you a 4th or 5th grade student for the 2023-2024 academic year?
Would you like to expand your vocabulary?
Would you like to compete with other schools for individual & team awards?
Would you like to have fun practicing with your team?
Would you like to impress your friends when you can spell & define words like kookaburra, malocclusion, and tuatara?
Then perhaps the Spell Bowl team is for you!
Tryouts for the College Wood Spell Bowl team will take place sometime in the next few weeks, but it’s never too early to get started practicing the words for the upcoming tryout and competition. Per the state rules, we are limited in the number of students who can become team members and represent CWE, and last year the local champion team and state champion team had a near perfect score, so in order to become a team member and for College Wood to do well in the competition, those interested in representing our school should get started studying now!
The words for the 2023 competition can be accessed below. Be sure to listen to school announcements and look for tryout information in the Friday School News available on the College Wood Web Site.
In the meantime, have fun studying!
We hope to see all our CWE Kindergarteners and their parents at the Kindergarten Social on August 18 from 6:30-7:30pm! This event is filled with arts and crafts, games, popcorn, and a chance to meet other Kindergarten students and their parents. We hope you can make it!
*We'd like this event to focus on our Kindergarteners - if possible, please leave siblings at home.*
Room Parents
This popular opportunity is a great way to support your child's specific teacher. Room parents plan and carry out two holiday parties, organize classroom teacher gifts and volunteer during CWE Carnival in March. Due to the high interest in this opportunity, a lottery is held to select the two parents for each classroom.
Interested parents must complete the MTK form by Friday, August 25th. All interested parents will be notified of the lottery results by Friday, September 1st. Everyone selected as a room parent must attend an orientation meeting on Thursday, September 7th from 10 am-11am, following the General PTO meeting.
Show your CWE Spirit!
Our online spirit store is open with t-shirts, long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts available in multiple designs for you to choose from.
To view the options and pay securely, visit the store link below. Items will be delivered in mid-September.
CWE PTO is teaming up with Bin Scrub to steam clean, sanitize, and make your garbage bins smell great, all while raising much needed funds for the school. Bin Scrub will be contributing 10% back to CWE for each household that signs up for garbage bin cleaning service. WIN/WIN!

Your College Wood-based Cub Scout Pack is welcoming new girls and boys from Kindergarten to 5th grade! Your child will be in a group with kids their own age at CWE to have fun, make new friends, and do new things. The kids will also gain a sense of personal achievement, local/global perspective and earn badges for the new skills learned. Best of all, scouting is FUN and creates memories and skills that will last a lifetime! Cub Scouting is inclusive and welcomes all kids and families.
Please come out Sunday August 20th, at 4 PM for a family picnic at Coxhall Gardens adjacent to the Children’s Garden parking area (food/drinks provided). If you can’t make that, please email signup@carmelpack132.com or call 317-476-3342 for more information.
