Title 1

Title I funds are supplemental funds that provide additional instructional resources for students who are not meeting grade-level academic benchmarks.  Title I funds may also be used for professional development, teacher training, and parental involvement activities.  

Services to children are based on the academic needs of individual children, not on the socioeconomic level of a child or his/her family. Your child’s teacher will communicate directly if your child needs additional academic support. 

It is important that schools and families work as partners to help our students achieve academic excellence. Through a process that included teachers, families, and students, the following agreed-upon roles and responsibilities will be carried out by us, as a school community, to support student success in school and in life.

Staff Role 

I understand the importance of a positive and rigorous school experience for all students and my role as a teacher is to:

• Provide a warm, safe, and caring learning environment for students.
• Teach the concepts, processes, and skills necessary to support student achievement and personal growth through interesting and challenging lessons.

• Maintain high expectations for all students consistent with state and local standards.
• Promote and model a love for learning.
• Help students become responsible for their own learning.
• Take into account each student’s strengths and needs.
• Help students follow the school and classroom rules.
• Keep parents informed of student progress.
• Suggest ways to support learning at home.
• Provide materials to foster parental support.

Family/Parent Role

I understand that by partnering in my child’s education, I will support his or her achievement and personal growth by:

• Ensuring my child attends school every day.
• Encouraging my child’s efforts.
• Reading with my child at home and making sure homework is completed.
• Monitoring my child’s progress in school.
• Participating in school events, when possible.
• Communicating with my child’s school when I have concerns or questions about my child.

In accordance with the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Section 1111(h)(6) Parents’ Right to Know, this serves as notification from the Carmel Clay School District to parents/guardians of students in Title I schools that you have the right to request and receive information in a timely manner regarding the professional qualifications of your student’s classroom teachers, including the following:

• If the teacher has met state qualification and licensing criteria for the grade level(s) and/or subject area(s) taught;
• If the teacher is teaching under an emergency or temporary status in which Indiana qualifications and licensing criteria are waived;
• The teacher’s baccalaureate degree major, graduate certification, and field of discipline; and
• Whether the student is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications.

If at any time your student has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified, you will be notified of this information by the school.
