summer meals program donations needed

Summer break can be a difficult time for students and families who receive free/reduced lunch; In Hamilton county alone, 1 in 7 kids are food insecure.  To assure that these families are receiving adequate food resources during this time, Carmel Youth Assistance started the summer lunch program in 2017.  The program is grass roots funded, meaning that they rely entirely upon donations from the community to cover the $20,000 + dollars needed to sustain the program each year. The summer lunch program serves CCS students and families, and we want to do what we can as a school and CCS family to sustain such an integral program within our community.

PTO meeting - MARCH 29 AT 6PM

Did you know that if your child attends PTE that you are automatically a member of the PTO?! We'd like to invite all PTE parents/caregivers to the spring PTO meeting on March 29 at 6:00 pm in the gym. Officer Harris will discuss digital/internet safety for elementary students. The PTO executive board will discuss upcoming events, open PTO positions for next year, and our new fundraiser for the fall -- Boosterthon. The CCS Food Service team has a brief presentation to share as well. Questions/concerns - email Angie Dodson.

Mark your calendars!

Now that you have the date, help us make the event a success!

Are you able to donate something (gift card, gift basket, etc) to the silent auction? The auction is a huge fundraiser for Prairie Trace, and we rely on donations to make it possible. Please complete this form and email it to Jill Kuhfus or Angie Dodson. We appreciate your support!

Interested in more than donating a good or service? Want additional marketing, advertising and recognition for your business throughout the Prairie Trace Elementary community? join the pto for the 2022-2023 school year!

It’s hard to believe we are beginning to look ahead and plan for the 2022-2023 school year! Throughout the year, the PTE PTO utilizes over 50 parents/guardians to fill its Executive Board & General Board Director positions. Without volunteers, the amazing offerings at PTE are just not possible. Please consider taking on a leadership role in the PTO by signing up to learn more about the positions summarized in the link below. We are beyond grateful for the support shown this year, and we want to thank you for investing in our school and its students. Of note - submitting this form does NOT commit you to a Director's position for next year. It just means that you are interested in learning more. (Call out for general volunteers will be in the Fall of 2022). Please let us know you are interested by Monday, April 11, 2022.

Dear PTE Families,

I can’t believe we are in the fourth grading period. March Madness is here! We are finally experiencing rising spring temperatures outside and we are entering our last lap of the year. Help us finish strongly this year by encouraging your child to read at home each night and really focus until the end. We want all of our students to be engaged in their lessons each day and have fun with their teachers and classmates!

Our students and staff had a fun spirit week with the culminating activity being our own version of Dance Marathon for Riley Children’s Hospital!  Thank you for all of your support and financial donations. Our students were very proud of our accomplishments and donations today - and their dance moves looked great too!

Our third graders did a wonderful job last week on their IREAD assessments. Following Spring Break, our students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will be taking ILEARN.  This will be taking place from April 19th through May 3rd in the mornings.  Please plan all appointments accordingly, so your students do not miss their sessions with their teachers.

If you have a future Kindergarten student or neighbors with children who will be in kindergarten next year, please encourage them to enroll as soon as possible. We like to have students enrolled in the spring, so we can determine staffing for the following year. We will also be holding kindergarten screeners on May 3rd and 4th, and we like to have all of our future students participate. Please help us spread the word around your neighborhoods!

Just a final reminder for our families who have walkers or carpool - please do not pull into the bus parking lot in the afternoon until the buses and walkers have exited the parking lot. Safety is our top priority, and we want to make sure that all students can safely exit without worrying about cars pulling in. Thanks for helping us with this!

Take a look at some of the wonderful activities planned for the next few weeks:

  • Report cards go out next week.  Review and call/email your teachers if you have any questions.

  • Dine to Donate is at Crafters from March 21-24th.  Take a night off from cooking and support PTE!

  • Our Kindergarten students will have Carmel firefighters present to them on Tuesday, March 22nd. The focus of the presentation will be to teach students about fire safety and to learn what to do in the event of a fire.

  • Our students in first through fourth grade will have a visiting author on March 23rd.  Tom Watson will be here to speak to the students about his book series and work with the students on the creation of both text and illustrations.  Thank you to our PTO to help fund our visiting authors.

  • Fifth Grade will have another fun experience at Urban Air on March 23rd from 4-6pm!

  • Kindness Week will be March 28th through March 31st.  Our students will be encouraged to complete different acts of kindness throughout the week.  This is great to carry into your homes too!

  • Some of our 4th grade students will visit the Planetarium on March 30th.  I know they will enjoy viewing and learning about the constellations.

  • We already saw the first round of our Famous Hoosiers in a Wax Museum last week as some of the 4th graders presented for classmates and parents.  The rest of the 4th grade crew will present their Famous Hoosiers on March 31st!  .

  • Second graders will hold their Mini Mart on March 31st as well.  We can’t wait to see the awesome products they create and sell.

  • Spring Break is from April 1st through April 8th.  Our first day back together will be April 11th, and we start ILEARN this week!

  • Good luck to our Math Bowl team who will compete on April 12th!

  • We have a late start on April 13th!

  • Fourth graders will be taking a field trip to the State Museum on April 15th as a learning experience to enhance their Indiana History studies this year!

Wow - what amazing opportunities our students get to experience!  I’m so proud to be a part of the Prairie Trace community!

PTE Proud,

Mrs. Piper

CAFETERIA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

help our PTE students dine safely

and comfortably!

We need parents just like you to help us in the cafeteria during lunch time.  As a cafeteria helper, you will help the children find a seat, open their lunch items, get all the extras (think parmesan cheese, ketchup, napkins, and utensils!), and maintain PTE lunch room standards!  ...all while getting to socialize with your kiddos and their friends. (We all love seeing your FB and Instagram selfies!)
This is a way to help out in the school, get to know all of your child's classmates, and interact with the staff at PTE.

YES, I WANT TO HELP!
