Carmel Clay School Board Announces New Leadership

With the start of the new year and annual reorganization, the Carmel Clay School Board of Trustees voted unanimously to elect Katie Browning as the new board president and Louise Jackson, the vice president. Jennifer Nelson-Williams will serve as the board secretary.

The board and administration wish to thank Layla Spanenberg, who has served as president for eight of the last 12 years. We are grateful for her continued leadership, commitment, and mentorship throughout the years.

Browning has been on the board for five years, most recently as the vice president.

“I have been honored to serve my community's children and educators with my work on our school board,” remarked Browning. “I am optimistic for the year 2022. In my new role as President, I know that our passion for public education, and commitment to students and staff will make this a year of continued remarkable achievement for Carmel Clay Schools."

The announcement of new leadership comes during the annual School Board Recognition Month celebration. These dedicated elected officials provide extraordinary service to students and staff, acting as a bridge between the community and the classroom. Board meetings are only part of what our members handle. Between twice-monthly meetings, they attend information and training sessions, serve on outside committees, and communicate regularly with the community.

We encourage all members of the community to join us in thanking Katie Browning, Louise Jackson, Jennifer Nelson-Williams, Layla Spanenberg, and Mike Kerschner for their commitment to Carmel Clay Schools.
