Welcome to PTO for the 2022-23 school year!
Welcome to the Carmel High School PTO!
Welcome to the Carmel High School PTO for the 2022-23 school year! We are all ready for a great year, and we're looking forward to a busy first semester! Over 200 families have already registered for the PTO - thank you! With your help, the PTO supports the CHS teachers, staff, and families and foster a positive, successful learning community for everyone. We are committed to making the PTO a fun and rewarding experience based on collaboration and mutual support.
You may know that the PTO makes some of the most memorable high school events possible - Homecoming, AfterProm, Gradfest/Senior Celebration, the Scholastic Awards Celebration, and more. The PTO lets teachers and staff know that they're appreciated by the families of the kids they work with every day. In addition, the Backpack Program supplies food-insecure CHS students with nutritious food to take home on weekends and school breaks. ALL of these programs are supported by PTO fundraising each year. Thank you for your support of all the great experiences Carmel High School offers for our kids.
Bookmark the PTO web site at CHS PTO Web Site - this is your source for PTO news, volunteer opportunities, announcements, and other helpful information.
We hope to see you at the first PTO meeting on Tuesday, September 6, at 9:30 am in the Community Room at the high school. A Zoom option will also be available and the sign-on information will be sent to you before the meeting. Meeting dates and times for the rest of the year are listed here: CHS PTO Meetings 2022-23.
The first thing we need to do is sign up some volunteers! If you expressed an interest in volunteering for a certain area within the PTO, those committees will contact you with upcoming opportunities. Ongoing volunteer needs will be listed on the PTO web site soon. Two immediate volunteer needs are for the Backpack Program and the Homecoming Committee (game on September 30, dance on October 1). The Homecoming Clothing Closet is looking for donations of gently-used Homecoming and Prom attire. Email CHSBackpackProgram@gmail.com for more information.
We want to hear from you! The PTO Leadership Team is listed on the web site at CHS PTO Leadership Team - feel free to contact any of us with questions or feedback. CHS staff are hard at work creating a welcoming environment for your children - a place for them to feel at home within an enormous school. We want the PTO to be that environment for you, the families of those students.
If you registered for the PTO in person, you may have received a CHS window decal and a special Greyhound Experience Calendar and Information Sheet. If you want another copy of the calendar, it's downloadable as a PDF on the PTO web site here: PTO Blue-Gold Calendar for 2022-23 .
Please spread the word about the PTO and encourage other parents to join:Join the CHS PTO. Make sure you have registered for this year! Membership fees are not required, but you must register.
Thank you for being interested, involved, and invested in our children's education.

PTO Meetings
On the first Tuesday of each month, PTO holds a meeting at 9:30 a.m. in the Community Room. Each month CHS Associate Principal, Karen McDaniel, and Counselor, Mrs. Stephan, provide detailed updates on what is happening at CHS. This is a great way to get the inside scoop directly from people in the know. Information discussed has varied, including topics such as Carmel School Board decisions, compliance with new state requirements, new ideas for scheduling or classes, the variety of programs offered for students and parents, testing schedules, assistance available, etc.
PTO Meeting Dates for the 2022-23 School year are: September 6, October 4, November 1, December 6, January 10, February 7, March 7, April 11 and May 2.
Volunteers
PTO organizes volunteers to help at CHS in a variety of ways. Our general volunteers help throughout the year as needed. Examples include registration, yearbook/ID pictures, Freshman Kick-off, selling Prom tickets, greeters at different events, parent representative on different school committees, and supporting special requests from teachers.
Homecoming Dance
PTO sponsors and runs the Homecoming Dance, held the Saturday after the Homecoming week. Students can come and dance in the Fieldhouse with a DJ, play cards or ping-pong in the Greyhound Cafeteria, or enjoy refreshments and hang out with their friends in the Freshman Cafeteria. Parent volunteers sell tickets during Spirit Week and volunteer at the event. This dance has great support and supervision of the CHS staff and teachers. This is also great way for both moms and dads to volunteer. The Homecoming Dance is the primary fundraiser event of the year for PTO.
Backpack Program
The PTO Backpack Program serves students at CHS in need of extra nourishment over the weekends. Backpacks are packed by volunteers weekly and distributed to the students through the Counseling Center. Volunteers are an essential part of the backpack program. Individuals can assist with either packing, sorting, stocking, or providing food or financial donations periodically throughout the year. Please send an email to CHSbackpackprogram@gmail.com or contact Jennifer Cassidy at 317-435-4525 for additional volunteer information. Thanks for your support of the Backpack Program!
Top Scholar Celebration
The CHS Top Scholars Celebration is an annual recognition in collaboration with the PTO in recognition of academic excellence. Top Scholars recognizes students in grades 10, and 11, and 12 who have earned excellent grades. This year's Senior Top Scholars Celebration will be held in April. The in-person event will be limited to seniors, their two guests, honored mentors, and school administrators. Sophomores and juniors will be recognized separately for their achievements.
Hospitality Committee
Membership Fees
PTO membership fees support all of the events you have just read about. PTO also provides money for special projects for the school as needed. All PTO funds raised are used directly for the benefit of students and staff of Carmel High School. Any profits left over at the end of each year are provided to the CHS Principal for a discretionary fund to support CHS students.
