National Library Month is in April each year, and at Carmel High School, we believe it’s never too early to celebrate! Sponsored by the American Library Association, National Library Month highlights the importance of ensuring everyone has access to school libraries. We are fortunate not only to have that access but also to have media centers that thrive as dynamic hubs for learning, creativity, and community.

To mark the occasion, the CHS Media Center hosted an exciting two-day celebration, welcoming approximately 1,400 students from English classes to participate in a variety of engaging activities. Students rotated through interactive pods featuring everything from a Story Forge writing station to a maker space, an upcycling activity turning old book pages into jewelry, and even a "Library of Things" where students explored a collection of fun, hands-on items—including a ukulele, board games, and crafting tools. The Carmel Clay Public Library also joined in on the fun, hosting a popular sticker design competition.

“Our media center is a special place, and National Library Month is the perfect time to reflect on the incredible resources available to our students and staff,” said Terri Ramos, department chair and lead media specialist. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to bring our school community together for creativity, connection, and celebration.”

A huge thank you to the CHS PTO for their generous financial contributions, which helped make this event possible. Because of course, no celebration would be complete without cupcakes!

Here’s to another fantastic National Library Month—where learning, imagination, and community come together in the heart of our school.
