September 6, 2024
Dear Prairie Trace Families,
What a great start we have had! I hope you had a great three day weekend, and you could ease back into a short week with your kiddos. As we settle into the rhythm of the school year, I wanted to touch base on a few important updates and reminders for the coming weeks.
Parent Information Night - September 10th at 6:00 PM
Please join us for our Parent Information Night on Tuesday. District Superintendent Dr. Beresford will be here to share important information about School Board Elections, and then I will share information about happenings at Prairie Trace. Our PTO will also share information about important events this year too. Childcare will be provided! Hope to see you there.
Fall Fundraiser - Race to Prairie Trace
Our annual Fall Race to Prairie Trace Fun Run is just around the corner! This event, organized by our amazing PTO, is a fun way for our students to get active and support our school. The Race to Prairie Trace is our largest fundraiser of the year, with 100% of proceeds going directly to support educational programs and classroom resources. We will have a kick off convocation on Monday. Please make sure you are registered at mybooster.com before Monday, so our students can start receiving pledges for our school! Please keep an eye out for more information on Monday, including details on how you can participate and contribute. We have met our 75% registration goal! So, all students will receive a Dude Perfect Collectible key chain! If we get to 96% registration, students will get a pajama day!
Student Pick-Up Procedures for After School Activities
Some of our after school activities have organized pick up to be in the back parking lot. For the safety of all students, I want to remind families that pick-up occurs after the buses have departed. If you are here to pick up students for an after school activity, please wait to pull in until all buses have left. Our last buses pull out of the parking lot around 3:05, so please plan accordingly. Please park in the back lot and follow the designated path to ensure a smooth and safe process. We kindly ask for your patience during this time and for all families to adhere to the set procedures to avoid congestion or confusion. Thank you for helping us keep our students safe!
Attendance and Tardiness
A new school year brings new opportunities, and regular attendance plays a key role in your child’s success. Missing school or arriving late not only disrupts your child’s learning but also impacts their classmates. Please ensure that your child arrives on time each day, ready to learn. Students should be in the building at 7:40, so they can be in their seats and ready for announcements at 7:45. If you are facing any challenges that affect attendance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office or social worker, Mrs. Rhyner—we’re here to support you!
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to provide the best learning environment for our students. We are looking forward to a fantastic September!
Warm regards,
Kim Piper
Principal

a note from our nurses
Parents - please note that there have been NO changes in the fever policy or the medical or illness excuse policy. The ONLY change this year, that was delivered to all Indiana schools, was an attendance policy. This policy states that "per Indiana Code 20-33-2.5, when a student misses 5 unexcused days of school within a ten-week period the school will provide written notification to the parent/guardian regarding school attendance, and that a conference must be held."
We understand this has put extra concern when calling your student out ill. Please know we are happy to continue to answer questions as they arise.
PTE family directory
Prairie Trace utilizes DirectorySpot for our Family Directory. It gives you all the school and class info you need, directly from your phone or the web.
This is the only directory PTE utilizes for class information. So if you want to have information for playdates and birthday parties, this is it!

support your hawk at the race to prairie trace!
As we continue gearing up for the Race to Prairie Trace, we would like to offer families who are not able to come watch their student/s run on Tuesday, September 17, an opportunity to support their student/s from afar!
We will be providing blank yard signs that families may decorate at home in honor of their student/s! These signs are FREE and will be available for pick-up at PTE September 11th through 13th (see the YARD SIGN REQUEST FORM below for all the details including specific pick-up hours and to request your sign/s). Decorated signs will be returned to PTE and volunteers will place the signs around the track during your student’s race time so they will see and feel your support!

(2) Fill out the YARD SIGN REQUEST FORM by this Friday, September 6th.
*We kindly request these yard signs be limited to families who are unable to attend the races on Tuesday, September 17th.
