There are three distinct categories of materials and resources available at Carmel Clay Schools. Each contributes to a student's education. Learn more about how our materials and resources are used and selected.
Parents are able to use Destiny to review which materials were checked out by your student, as well as read book reviews. Please reach out to your student's Media Specialist with any additional questions about the book content or themes.
Read with your child! Regardless of age or grade, parents are always encouraged to read with their child. For younger children, continue to read to your child or assist them as they navigate new words and texts. For older students, engage in questions about what they are reading, consult book reviews to use as guides, or perhaps check out your own copy from the library and read along!
Confirm and promote your child reading age-appropriate materials. At CCS, we encourage students to find their 'just-right' level books that are difficult enough to keep a student engaged, while not being so challenging students are discouraged.
Encourage variety. It is important for literacy development that students are exposed to various genres, series and authors. Challenging readers to incorporate a variety of texts will provide a deeper understanding and appreciation of literature. Students can expand their vocabulary, develop a broader perspective, boost creativity and improve writing proficiency.
