School Resource Officers

Sergeant Juan Navarrete has served with the Carmel Police Department since 2012. His career includes assignments as Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Emergency Response Group member, Drone Operator, and Hostage Negotiator. As a Spanish speaker, he made a significant impact during his two years as School Resource Officer at Mohawk Trails Elementary, where he successfully bridged the gap with the Hispanic community and received a National Award from the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO).

As a longtime Carmel resident and proud parent of Carmel students, he brings a personal understanding of the critical importance of school safety. Following his promotion to Sergeant, he spent two years as a road supervisor and is currently one of the Sergeants assigned to the Carmel Clay Schools. He remains deeply committed to building trust, enhancing school safety, and serving the community he calls home.

Sergeant Navarrete is a proud US Army Veteran, and in his off time, Sergeant Navarrete enjoys watching his children play sports and competing with family and friends in euchre and cornhole. Sgt Navarrete is the oldest of four brothers who serve the city of Carmel. His twin Brother and younger brother are also Carmel Police Officers, and his other brother is a Carmel Firefighter

Sergeant Jon Rice is a dedicated law enforcement professional who serves as the sergeant for the School Resource Unit at the Carmel Police Department. A native of Warsaw, Indiana, Sergeant Rice began his law enforcement career with the Warsaw Police Department in 2009 before transitioning to the Carmel Police Department in 2013.

Sergeant Rice holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Trine University, where he played football for the Thunder and was an active member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Throughout his career, he has cultivated a wide range of expertise, including serving as an advanced dive team member, field training officer, advanced accident investigator, school resource officer, UAS (drone) team member, and patrol sergeant.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Sergeant Rice is passionate about giving back to his community. He enjoys coaching his two boys in youth sports, mentoring young people, spending quality time with his family, and cheering on Notre Dame sports teams. His unwavering commitment to public service and youth development makes him a valued leader and a vital contributor to Carmel Clay Schools and the Carmel community.

Master Patrol Officer Blake Lytle is a native of Indianapolis and is a graduate of Ben Davis High School. After high school, Officer Lytle attended IUPUI where he obtained his Bachelor's of Science degree in criminal justice. He has been a police officer since 2002 and joined the Carmel Police Department in 2006. Throughout his career, Officer Lytle has had the opportunity to serve as an accident investigator, a D.A.R.E instructor, a field training officer, a member of the Emergency Response Group, an explorer advisor, a member of the Peer Support Team, an honor guard member, and a member of the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police Critical Incident/Memorial Team. Officer Lytle is married with four children and is a Notre Dame fan.

Master Patrol Ashley Williams graduated from Ball State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and sociology. She was hired with the Carmel Police Dept. in 2008. She was assigned to the Operations division and has served as a patrol officer ever since. During Officer Williams’s time on the road, she has been a Mentor, a Field Training Officer, and an Evidence Tech. Officer Williams enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with her two dogs.

Master Patrol Officer Broadnax is a native of Detroit, Michigan, and attended high school in Bloomington, Indiana. He is a graduate of Indiana University, where he obtained his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Science in 1994 and his Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology in 1997. After graduate school, he worked in the health and fitness industry as a health fitness specialist and exercise physiologist before finishing as a Wellness Director with the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. After many years in his chosen profession, he decided to pursue a lifelong dream and accepted a position with the Indianapolis Public Schools Police Department (IPSPD) as a Police Officer in 2006. After 1.5 years with the IPSPD, he accepted a position with the Carmel Police Department as a Patrolman in 2008. During his tenure with the Carmel Police Department, he has been fortunate to have experience and training as a Field Evidence Technician and a Field Training Officer before joining the School Resource Unit in 2015. He is married with three children and is an IU superfan.

Master Patrol Officer Morris has been with the Carmel Police Department since 2013. Prior to the Carmel Police Department, Officer Morris worked for the Marion County (IN) Sheriff’s Department and served in the U.S. Army for 8 years. For the first nine years of his career, Officer Morris worked night shift, and moved to day shift in 2022. He is a member of the Chief’s Honor Guard as well as the Unmanned Aerial Systems (Drone) Unit, and has also served as a field evidence technician and field training officer. Officer Morris has lived in Carmel since 1988 and graduated from Carmel High School in 2007. He is a family man who enjoys spending his time away from work with his wife, daughter, and German Shepherd.

Officer Matt Harris has been a police officer since 2013 and began working for the Carmel Police Department in 2018. Officer Harris was a detective and night-shift supervisor in his previous department and has served as a field training officer. Officer Harris was a musician and teacher prior to becoming a law enforcement officer. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from Butler University and a Master’s degree in Music Performance from Arizona State University. Officer Harris is married with two children, two dogs, a cat, a rabbit, a parakeet, and 16 chickens.

Master Patrol Officer Luke Gossett has worked for the Carmel Police Department since 2013 and previously with the Tucson Police Department, where he was hired in 2006 as a patrol officer. He has spent time in the department developing the new hires as a Field Training Officer (FTO), is an Emergency Vehicle Operations instructor, and a senior member of the Accident Investigation Unit. Officer Gossett has been a member of the SRO unit since 2020 and says that being an SRO has been his favorite assignment in his 18-year career. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University, where he majored in criminology and minored in psychology. Officer Gossett is married, has two sons, two mini-Australian shepherds, and loves to golf in his spare time. Officer Caleb Hall grew up in Valparaiso, Indiana, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a focus in Criminology from Valparaiso University.  He began his law enforcement career in 2018 with the Valparaiso Police Department before joining the Carmel Police Department in 2022.  Officer Hall is an active member of the Emergency Response Group (ERG) and serves as a State Certified Instructor, demonstrating his commitment to excellence in public safety and training.  Before pursuing a career in law enforcement, Officer Hall dedicated seven years to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana, where he served as a Program Director for the final four years of his tenure, making a lasting impact on the lives of youth in his community.

Outside of work, Officer Hall enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters, and their two rescue dogs, Bo and Boston.  He enjoys fishing, camping, watching movies, and hosting game nights with family and friends.  A skilled pitmaster, he loves perfecting his craft at the grill.  And as a proud Chicago Cubs fan, “Go Cubs Go!”

Officer Ashley Commodore has been with the Carmel Police Department since 2019. Officer Commodore is a member of CPD’s Chiefs Honor Guard, a certified Car Seat Technician, and an active member of the CPD Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).

Prior to Carmel PD, Officer Commodore worked for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) since 2013 where she served as a Field Training Officer (FTO), member of the Sheriff’s State Honor Guard Memorial Team, Bike Team, Background Investigator, Cadet Program Advisor and in the Community Resource Program. In 2017, Officer Commodore was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where she led a squad of Deputies as the Sheriff’s Response Team (SRT), serving high-risk felony warrants in Marion County.

Officer Commodore is married to her best friend, David Commodore, who is also a Carmel SRO. The Commodores currently have one daughter and are looking forward to growing their family. The Commodores love traveling and eating BBQ in different regions, going to church, and anything outdoors.

Officer Ana Vazquez grew up in East Chicago, Indiana, and then moved to Highland, Indiana, where her parents still reside. She grew up playing tennis and running cross country. She began her career in law enforcement in 2017 after going through the Indiana University Police Academy. She graduated from IU with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology. She worked as a full-time police officer at IUPD-Bloomington and a part-time officer at the City of Bloomington PD. She joined the Carmel Police Department in July 2021. She was assigned to the Operations Division, served as a patrol officer on the night shift, and then spent her last year working the road on the day shift. While on the road, she was a drone operator and mentor and enjoyed returning to IU for recruitment events.

Officer Jason Gilmore graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing. He has worked for the Carmel Police Department since 2015 and has been with the School Resource Unit since 2022. Officer Gilmore has been a Field Evidence Technician and is currently a pilot for the Unmanned Aerial System Unit and a member of the Emergency Response Group. Officer Gilmore enjoys spending time with family and friends. He also enjoys watching and playing basketball, football, and baseball.

Officer Molly Culver graduated from Ball State University with a Master’s Degree in Special Education. She is a Carmel High School alumna and coached girls lacrosse and volleyball. Officer Culver was hired by the Carmel Police Department in 2019 and served as a Field Evidence Technician and Field Training Officer before joining the School Resource Unit. She is married with two kids and enjoys cooking, relaxing, and spending time with her family and their dog Brisket.

Officer Garcia is a native of Chicago, Illinois, and attended high school in Hammond, Indiana. He is a graduate of Purdue University Northwest, where he played soccer and received a degree in sociology. He has been a police officer since 2016 and an officer with Carmel since 2019. Throughout his career, Officer Garcia has had the opportunity to serve on the Drone Team, be a member of the Honor Guard, and be a field training officer. Officer Garcia is married with two children and one big dog.

Officer Commodore began his police career with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in 2013, not long after getting out of the US Army. In 2018, Officer Commodore joined the Carmel Police Department and has been with us for six years, and is a member of the Chief's Honor Guard. Originally from Maryland, he moved here in 2011 and met his now-wife, SRO Ashley Commodore. The two have one child and are expecting another in September.  

He enjoys road trips with his family, exploring nature, going to the movies, and playing video games if he must be inside.

Officer Hunter Rogowski (AKA Officer Rogo) graduated from Indiana University - Bloomington with a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, Social Studies. He taught Psychology, World History, and Geography, and coached Baseball at Martinsville High School. He was hired on with the Carmel Police Dept. in 2017. He was assigned to the Operations division and served as a patrol officer. During Officer Rogowski’s time on the road, he was a Field Training Officer and still serves as a negotiator for the police department’s Crisis Negotiations Team. Officer Rogowski enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his wife, son, and dog, Fiona.

Officer Chad Wiegman has been with the Carmel Police Department since 2006. Officer Wiegman is from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and attended Snider High School. Officer Wiegman attended Indiana University, where he studied Criminal Justice. Prior to joining the Carmel Police Department, he worked for the Indianapolis Police Department for 2.5 years. During his almost 17 years with the Carmel Police Department, he has been assigned to the Operations Division and has served as an Accident Investigator, Coordinator of the Carmel Police Explorer Program, Field Training Officer, and, for the last eight years, the K9 unit with his soon-to-be-retired K9 partner Lolo. Officer Wiegman is married and has a middle school-aged daughter who attends Hamilton Heights High School.

Officer Ebony Bond graduated from Warren Central in 2014 and the University of Indianapolis in 2018 with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology. She started out as a police officer in Kinston, North Carolina, before joining the Carmel PD in 2019.

SRO Bond loves working with students, building positive relationships, and helping make school a place where everyone feels safe and supported. She's married, a mom of two (a middle-schooler and a baby), and also has two very entertaining dogs.

When not at school, you can usually find her baking. She's obsessed with sourdough and somehow manages to put it in everything. When she finally gets a chance to sit down, she's probably watching The Office or The Vampire Diaries!

Master Patrol Officer Landry Smiley was originally from Fort Walton Beach, Florida and graduated from the University of West Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. He served in the US Naval Reserves at Gulfport, MS, and the Air Force Reserves at Grisson ARB. Officer Smiley started his career in 2001 as an Indianapolis firefighter and transitioned into law enforcement with Carmel Police in 2008. During his tenure with Carmel Police, Officer Smiley has served as a member of ERG, Crisis Negotiator Team,  and POST. He served as a Detective investigating crime against persons and property crimes from 2020 to 2025 and is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator and Certified Fraud Examiner.

Officer Smiley is married and has two daughters who had the pleasure of attending Carmel Clay Schools. Thanks to the education received in Carmel, one has completed her Purdue master’s degree in biomedical engineering, and the other is currently attending Purdue.

Officer Brady grew up in central Indiana and attended college at Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU). While graduating with degrees in criminal justice and leadership, he competed on the men’s soccer team, helping to secure IWU’s first men’s NCAA national championship. He began his career in law enforcement in 2011, graduating from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. After working for agencies in both Indiana and Wisconsin, he joined the Carmel Police Department in 2024, where he has been working in the patrol division. Officer Brady is ecstatic about joining the SRU division and serving the students, families, and staff at West Clay Elementary.
