Data Safety While Traveling
Abigail Pagryzinski

Summer Break is upon us! A beachside vacation, camping excursion, or family road trip may be on the horizon. Check out these tips to keep your data safe while traveling!

Book Your Trip Safely

Use a reputable company and website to book your next vacation. Use a personal email address to book rather than your CCS email. CCS email is only available in the United States and US Territories.

Protect Your Rewards Account

Many travel companies have reward loyalty programs to earn miles and points when booking a trip. Keep an eye on these accounts just like it's a bank account or credit card. These loyalty programs store personal information and financial data and criminals may want to access or steal that information or earned rewards.

Make Smart Choices about Wifi

Free Public Wifi can be vulnerable to security issues. If it's the only thing available, try to not access personal accounts or sensitive data while on it. When possible, ask about encrypted WiFi networks or use a virtual private network (VPN)

Update All Devices to Latest Software

Ensuring your devices have the latest updates installed increases security. Old and outdated software is vulnerable to cybercriminals and hackers.

Ensure that "Find My Phone" is Set-Up

If a device gets lost or stolen, this software will help locate it.

Minimize Location Sharing

It may be tempting to post to social media accounts when on vacation, but doing so alerts criminals at home that you are away. Try to wait to post vacation photos with locations until you're back home.
